EP 53: Healing The Shame Around Sexuality, Intimacy, And Pleasure

With Sarah Lajeunesse

On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Sarah Lajeuness.  Sarah is a certified and award-winning coach, writer, speaker and “shmealer” (shame healer) whose life’s work is devoted to helping humans heal the guilt, shame, and experiences from the past that prevent them from moving forward and experiencing a greater and richer quality of life that’s possible.  She’s witnessed the long-term damage and detrimental impacts that the weight of shame can carry (if left unaddressed) - from the boardroom to the bedroom, and everywhere in between.

In this episode we explore the role of shame - particularly in relation to sexuality, intimacy and pleasure - and how it can unconscious create our lives for us, if we aren’t aware of it.  We dive into how the core essence of who we are can be clouded by shame - and how we can begin to heal that, by loving ourselves back to wholeness.

What You’ll Learn from this Episode:

  • Shame is a state in which someone feels unworthy, not enough, and unlovable as they are - and it requires them to seek approval and validation externally

  • Our guilt and shame affects all of us - we can’t compartmentalise it - our same shameful beliefs show up everywhere; from the bedroom to the boardroom and everywhere in between

  • We aren’t meant to suffer through life - we are meant to feel deep pleasure, joy and happiness and inner peace and confidence.

  • We are born in love - and this core essence of who we are, over time, gets blocked and disconnected by deep layers of shame and guilt - the weight of the shame and guilt that we carry can be so detrimental to our lives as we create from there, unconsciously

  • Where you think people hate you, is actually where you hate yourself.  Shame is self-harming.  And, when we aren’t aware that this is what is happening, it is exhausting.

  • There’s no ‘quick fix’ for shame - it requires of us to go deeply into our unconscious beliefs from childhood and identify where our worldview has been created unconsciously.
